Koa Luke (2012), a Hawaiian activist born in the islands but raised in the Hawaiian diaspora on the U.S. East Coast, discusses his political journey that led him back to this ancestral homeland. An advocate for the restoration of an independent Hawaiian nation, Luke credits Hawaiian cultural values, his family, and his wide range of grassroots community organizing experiences in shaping his political consciousness. A firm believer that politics must acknowledge/be connected to the land base wherever one lives, Luke currently helps farm a landholding traditionally called Hanakehau for spiritual, educational, and political purposes.
